Frequently asked questions

The Lakesman Half, everything you need to know before race day.

What is the location?+

The swim starts at the water’s edge by Theatre by the Lake, Keswick. The bike is one continuous ride around the towns of West Cumbria. The run is four laps around Keswick.

What time does the race start?+

The race starts between 6:30am and 6:50am.

What are the cut-off times?+

Swim 1hr10 after the start, bike 5hr00 after the start, run 8hr15 after the start. The race finishes at 15:05, with no athletes left on course after that.

What are the distances?+

Swim 1.2 miles (1.9km), bike 56 miles (90km), run 13.1 miles (21.1km).

How do I enter?+

Entries are open to individuals or relay teams (one swimmer, one cyclist, one runner). Entries are online only, paid by credit or debit card. You receive a confirmation email once payment is processed.

What is included in the entry fee?+

Full race organisation (transition area, swim course and safety cover, medical cover, traffic management and road closures, stewards and volunteers), race-day nutrition at the aid stations, a finisher T-shirt and a finisher medal.

What age group am I in?+

Your age group is determined by your age on 31 December.

Can someone else register and rack my belongings for me?+

No. The racing athlete must register and rack their own bike and bags. Photo ID is requested at registration.

Is there a minimum age?+

Yes, athletes must be 18 on race day.

Info about the Transition Zone+

You are given coloured bags at registration for your bike and run gear. Bike shoes may be attached to the pedals. Only items placed in your coloured bags may be in transition.

What if I have to pull out of the race early?+

Inform a referee or official directly. The organisation is responsible for every athlete from start to finish, so if you do not tell us, we will start searching for you.

Can friends, family or spectators run the finish line with me?+

Yes, directed by a race official in the finish chute, subject to congestion on the day.

Where can I find the general race information and rules?+

In the event Rules and Regulations, shared ahead of race day.

Who do I contact regarding race photos?+

The official photography contractor is announced nearer the event. Photos from each leg are available to purchase afterwards via the website.

Where can I sign up to be a marshal?+

Will spectators be able to follow athletes by car on the course?+

No. Please follow the recommended viewing places in the athlete guide and ask supporters not to follow on the course.

Can we practise the swim course before the event?+

This is entirely at your own risk and the organisers advise against it.

Are wetsuits allowed?+

Yes, depending on the water temperature, in line with British Triathlon guidance.

If I need assistance in the swim, what should I do?+

Turn onto your back and raise an arm to attract the swim-safety crew. Lifeguards are on hand to check you are ok and assist if needed.

Can I use a hybrid or mountain bike?+

Yes, but a road or time-trial bike is strongly advised to help you meet the cut-off times.

How do I change my personal details (address, email)?+

Email transfers@resultsbase.net with your name, registration number and the details to change. You will receive a confirmation email.

Will there be a relay entry?+

Yes. Relay teams of one swimmer, one cyclist and one runner can enter.
